Modern Rustic Interior Home Tour: Nestled in the mountains, this luxurious home is a symphony of comfort and style. In collaboration with their client, Studio McGee has masterfully blended the client’s personality with the firm’s signature touch. The result? A space that feels both relaxed and elevated.
The modern architecture provides a clean canvas, allowing the warmth and character of textural materials to shine. Imagine rich, natural elements like stone and wood, adding depth and warmth, perfectly balanced with sleek, modern furniture and fixtures.
But this isn’t a strictly minimalist haven. Studio McGee embraced their client’s love for pattern and color, weaving in playful touches throughout the home to create a truly unique and “fun and funky” aesthetic.
Every detail is intentional. Rooms are thoughtfully designed to maximize the breathtaking mountain views, ensuring every corner feels inviting and grand. This luxurious mountain home is a testament to the power of collaboration, where personal style meets expert design to create a truly unforgettable space. Images courtesy of Studio McGee.
The magic of designing a home lies in the intricate layering of elements—collaborating with architects and builders, crafting furniture layouts, and meticulously planning the “paint schedule” for each room. Shea and her design team excel at creating a unified paint plan that seamlessly connects the various spaces while still allowing the home to boast its own unique color story.
For The Summit Estate, this story unfolds through a tapestry of earthy neutrals punctuated by pops of richer hues inspired by the vibrant palette of a Utah autumn. Below, you’ll find a complete list of the paint colors used, allowing you to recreate this stunning look in your own home.
Entryway
The entryway’s modern rustic design sets the tone for the entire home—warm and inviting. Shea McGee and her team knew this first impression mattered. Instead of cold, sterile drywall, they opted for visually captivating stone and raw timber, creating a space rich with texture and character.
A round table in the center invites conversation, while additional seating tucked around the edges encourages guests to linger. But the true stars of the show are the art pieces – a playful peek into the homeowner’s personality and a hint of the creative freedom they gave the design team. This entryway is more than just a threshold; it promises a unique and delightful home to come.
Design Tip:
Break up vast expanses of drywall with textured wall treatments like stone. This will introduce warmth and coziness that plain white walls often lack, adding depth and character to your space.
Living Room
The living room provided a unique layout challenge. Shea McGee and her team wanted to showcase the breathtaking view while creating a conversational seating area around the fireplace. To top it all off, the layout needed to flow seamlessly to the kitchen and dining room.
Once they designed the layout code, Shea and her team presented a mood board brimming with personality. Picture a sophisticated yet edgy mix: a curved plaid sofa, armchairs with sleek sloped arms, and a coffee table grounded by chunky, organic legs. It perfectly captured the client’s aesthetic with a touch of the signature Studio McGee style.
“The best part of designing custom homes,” Shea explains, “is that moment when you truly understand your client’s taste. We can present something we know they’ll love while still delivering the Studio McGee style they hired us for.” This living room exemplifies that perfect marriage of personal vision and expert design.
Dune White
In many of the home’s communal spaces, Dune White by Benjamin Moore is used. Dune White is a versatile shade that has undertones of grey and green.
Kitchen & Pantry
In any well-designed space, there’s usually a piece that sets the tone for everything else. In The Summit Estate’s kitchen, that crown jewel was the range. “The client craved a statement maker,” explains Shea McGee. Enter a stunning dark green Lacanche range seamlessly integrated with the cabinetry for a unified look.
But a striking range needs a supporting cast. A plaster range hood draws the eye upwards, adding vertical interest, while a warm wood band across the cabinets visually ties them to the exposed shelves. Since the range wasn’t centered in the room, Shea balanced the layout with a clever pantry door that disappears into the cabinetry, adding a touch of playful whimsy.
The dramatic soapstone island countertop anchors the space and provides ample seating for six on the barstools pulled up beside it. This kitchen is a masterclass in balancing bold design with practical needs, ensuring it’s both beautiful and a joy to cook in.
Deep River
In the initial design boards, Shea and the design team fell in love with a dark green Lacanche Range, and color-matched the range and cabinets for a bold statement. To get the same moody hue as the kitchen cabinetry, look for Deep River by Benjamin Moore.
Design Tips:
For an English-inspired look, consider lowering your cabinets slightly. This approach works especially well in rooms with tall ceilings, helping to create a more balanced feel.
In an open-concept kitchen and dining room, pair oversized pendants with a linear chandelier to ensure a cohesive space with a natural flow.
Dining Room
The heart of the dining room is a custom-sized McGee & Co. Orville Dining Table, generously stretching to seat twelve. But comfort is just as important as capacity. Shea McGee and her team opted for upholstered benches along one side instead of chairs for a softer touch. “It creates a nice variation in height,” Shea explains.
Opposite the benches sits a beautiful wooden hutch, each shelf meticulously styled with a curated collection of kitchen and dining treasures. It adds a touch of personality and functionality, keeping essentials close at hand.
