Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Ideas
Modern farmhouse bathroom ideas: A well-designed modern farmhouse bathroom adds charm and sophistication to your oasis, while providing the perfect spot to start your day and unwind in the evening. Farmhouse-style emphasizes practicality and simplicity with a touch of rustic charm.
A few elements of a farmhouse bathroom are wood floors, free-standing tubs, farmhouse sinks, wood ceiling beams, shiplap wall panelling and traditional style faucets in aged brass or copper.
Not every home has a large master bath, but luxury and superior design can come in small packages too. A solid foundation of beautiful materials sets the tone when combined with a well-thought out color scheme. The finishing touches pulls it all together so be sure to engage all of your senses by adding scented soaps, bath bombs, plants, sponges and pretty baskets.

Although architecturally reminiscent of the old world, this villa’s contemporary touches give timelessness to its style. The home was designed by Calvis Wyant in Arizona. Interior design by Lissa Lee Hickman. Hallmarks of modern Mediterranean style exhibited in this house include the liberal use of wood, stone, steel, and glass both on the interior and exterior. Together, all these elements give the impression of an appealing rustic home that has evolved over time to serve the lifestyle of its inhabitants.

What colors are good for a farmhouse bathroom?
Although farmhouse design typically lends itself to a neutral palette, a modern farmhouse bathroom is the perfect spot to add either a bold splash or subtle hint of color.
For a neutral palette – keeps things fresh and minimalist by incorporating taupe, greige or beige tones that cultivate an open and airy feel to the space. Neutral doesn’t have to be boring, and can be elevated through the use of pattern and texture. Think wicker baskets, graphic area rugs, patterned tiles and gorgeous wood tones. Many home owners are turning to brass finishes and accessories which pair wonderfully with a bathroom engulfed in warm shades.
You can also go bold by introducing visually striking hues, such as greens, purples, oranges and reds. I have included a few photos from designers Heidi Callier and Jean Stoffer who all share an exquisite talent in bringing color into the bathroom through the use of pattern and texture.
Try saturating the space in deep earth tones, such as emerald and forest green. These rich hues provide a fresh contrast against white porcelain fixtures while enhancing rustic details such as wood cabinets and wood ceiling beams. High contrast elements such as brightly colored tiling are softened by incorporating natural elements such as woven storage baskets and weathered wood furniture.
If you want a more feminine or romantic feel to your bathroom, consider bringing in pale shades of pink, purple or orange into the decor in the form of vases, florals or artwork.
For a monochromatic look, black, white and brass make for a failproof color palette in a farmhouse bathroom.

What should I put in my farmhouse bathroom?
The key design element in modern farmhouse design is simplicity. Wood tones are important to add to the mix and can be introduced through wood flooring, as a frame surrounding mirrors, ceiling beams, and lighting fixtures.
Stand-alone tubs are all the rage now and another great item to add to the bathroom. A deep tub can instantly add luxury and style, as well as providing a relaxing place to soak and enjoy. Consider adding a rustic vanity and cabinets to add warmth and texture. Modern farmhouse bathrooms are all about including natural elements that blend seamlessly with modern fixtures. Farmhouse-style sinks are another signature statement piece in farmhouse bathrooms.

Modern Farmhouse Bathroom with a Neutral Color Scheme

The owners of Irwin Construction renovated their own bathroom with a neutral color scheme and plenty of texture. In this room they liked the contrasting textures of the shiplap, subway tile, herringbone marble tile in the shampoo niche, large grain of the cedar accents, and the various textiles we used in decorating. These varying surfaces add interest where the color palette is minimal.

The main bathroom is the sole spot in the home where Amber Lewis switched up the wall paint color, opting for Portola Paints’ Table Linen to eliminate any green undertones that could “look funky” on the skin. A Pinterest photo inspired the vanities with an apron front and Calacatta Super Oro Gold Vein marble on the countertops. Gold Waterworks fixtures, Lee Valley brass hardware, and custom oak cabinetry make the freestanding Waterworks Empire bathtub look especially inviting.
Mix in Metallic Accents
A great way to bring a touch of glamour to a farmhouse bathroom is through incorporating metallic lighting fixtures that make a strong statement.
To create a truly luxurious bathroom, the effective use of chandeliers, decorative wall sconces, and recessed lighting can go a long way in creating instant sophistication. The trick to properly lighting a bathroom while creating a luxurious feel, says designer Scott Arthur Yerkey, is to use multiple layers. Dimmer switches as they are a lovely addition to any bathroom as they can provide the same effect as soft candlelight.
Metallics can be introduced through faucets, shower fixtures, towel holders and cabinetry hardware.

The primary bathroom is the jewel of this home. Separate his and hers vanities flank the bathroom, with an extended makeup station along the far wall. Upper cabinets provide additional storage in case the six drawers below the vanity aren’t enough. Warm brass fixtures and a playful hand-painted tile backsplash keep the space from feeling too dark and moody despite the darker gray tones.
The shower separates the vanities, with three glass walls jutting into the room and making it’s presence quite dramatic. To add further drama and celebrate the shower, Devon Grace book-matched two dark gray porcelain slabs along the back wall and carried it across on the ceiling.
White cabinets on top of the countertop provide additional storage while also helping to balance out the space and make the vanities feel light and airy.

Wall paneling, such as shiplap adds a touch of charm to a farmhouse bathroom as well as texture and color. It’s important to note that the material you choose should have the ability to withstand moisture and humidity.

The assignment for Chicago based reDesign Home was to update this homeowner’s childhood home into a functional space for his growing family of six. A kitchen remodel paired with an extensive addition including a lounge area, mudroom, study, primary suite, and laundry room added much-needed space, while a refresh of the furnishing and decor ensured the home felt both cohesive and comfortable throughout its entirety.
The primary bedroom bathroom boasts a large free-standing tub, ship lap walls, warm wood tones, hexigon tile flooring and brass fixtures.
Open Storage Shelving
Finding storage in any bathroom can be a challenge, but when you want to add a little extra space for your must-haves, consider some floating reclaimed wood shelves. This provides additional space for towels and also provides the perfect opportunity to display vases, plants and candles.

Mix in Greenery
Lush greenery helps to create a healthy environment, while also creating a tranquil setting. Bathrooms tend to have lower light, high humidity, and warmer temperatures than other rooms in the house. It’s important to find houseplants that will flourish in this environment.
Displaying potted plants on counters, ledges and on the floor, as well as hanging plants from the ceiling brings in color, personality, and energy. Try filling a vase with fresh flowers, or incorporate vines that trail down from shelves.
A Touch of Black Grounds a Space
I’ve always loved a touch of black to any room in the house as it not only grounds it – it adds vivid contrast, sophistication and elegance. Black accents add punch, dimension and a modern edge to a farmhouse bathroom and can give a glamorous lift to an all white room.
Black-framed shower doors made from aluminum or steel look stunning in traditional bathrooms and modern spaces alike.

Create Interest with Texture and Pattern
Modern farmhouse style tends to simple and so its important to add visual interest, contrast and depth with texture. To keep the space from looking flat, especially if you are working with a typical neutral color scheme, be sure to layer different textures, such as tile, fluffy towels and storage baskets. Other materials that add texture are reclaimed wood, stone, wicker and upholstery.

Go Bold with Tile
Marble is a natural material and very much suited to the farmhouse aesthetic. Whether you choose neutral toned tiles, or use the tile to provide an addition of color, marble adds a luxurious spa-like touch to any bathroom space.
Tiles are a timeless and wise choice for bathrooms and work well as flooring, on countertops, and walls in a warm and damp bathroom environment. Tiles also offer limitless design possibilities.
From subway tiles to ceramic, graphic pattern tiles work perfectly in a bathroom. As an added bonus, they also provide homeowners the opportunity to showcase their creative side.

Ranch Style House Home Tour
This stunning ranch style house is perched high on a hilltop and nestled among the trees claiming its rightful place on a scenic 200-acre property in Texas. The owner desired an ample yet understated home with natural and simple architectural expression that would blend effortlessly into the landscape that surrounds it. Heavy timber columns and stone walls ground the home to the site. Reclaimed siding and simple barn-like structures give the architecture a sense of history and regional belonging. Referencing the owner’s love of the old west, many of the interior walls showcase the same stone and wood that is on the exterior of the home. This gesture alludes to a time when materials were not mass produced but simply gathered from the area and formed as needed.
Beautiful Country Homes Tour
This post features tours of beautiful country homes designed by Beth Webb, an internationally recognized interior designer admired for her tactile, serene, and dynamic spaces. Beth believes beauty only works if it is calibrated by ease, and that elegance is rooted in simplicity. “Texture is my color palette,” says Beth, who uses a variety of materials and objects to create interest in a room. She mingles sinuous profiles with hard lines, juxtaposing masculine and feminine silhouettes to create compelling, sensual spaces. Layered light is another crucial element bringing a sense of warmth, romance and contentment to Beth’s interiors.
Atlanta Traditional Country Home
Today we begin a tour of a stunning Atlanta home where the pallet was inspired by the home owner’s (Jane Hight) vast collection of blue-and-white Imari porcelain inherited from her mother and grandmother. Having served as the accountant for interior designer Lauren DeLoach for several years, it was natural for Hight to enlist the designer’s help when decorating her home. When it came to a color palette, the pair looked no further than Hight’s beloved family porcelain. “While we knew we would use blue, finding the right shade took some study,” says DeLoach. “We didn’t want a too-saturated hue, but we didn’t want it too pale. We also needed another color to add punctuation marks here and there, so the salmon hue came from the Imari porcelain.”
Country Home Tour
The small and compact English-style country home is 1,400-square-feet and situated on a sweeping pasture across from the Inn at Brays Island in South Carolina. The owners hired Interior Designer, Beth Webb to create a pastoral blend of Anglo and Low Country traditions. “It’s interesting how a house this tiny can be so INCREDIBLY LIVABLE. Inside, all that extreme verticality means the rooms feel neither contained or compressed. Plus the house has a beautiful orientation on the property, so there’s a lovely dappling of light morning, afternoon, and evening. We took advantage of this as much as possible, especially in the galley kitchen, which we designed as kind of a non-kitchen kitchen, a space that looks more like a sun-splashed garden room with that huge window.”
White Kitchen Cabinet Ideas
Kitchen cabinets come in a wide variety of colors, with white being one of the most popular choices. One of the main benefits of white kitchens is that they never go out of style, they coordinate with everything and create natural light reflection. White kitchen cabinets are timeless and the perfect choice for those who want to create a blank canvas and plant to add interest with flooring, window treatments, artwork, and area rugs. White cabinets can instantly brighten a kitchen and provide the illusion of more space. To avoid creating a kitchen that feels cold, consider adding a splash of color or texture, and mixing white cabinets with contrasting countertops or backsplashes.
Cream Kitchen Cabinet Ideas
Cream kitchen cabinets have increasingly grown in popularity over the past few years – and for good reason! Cream is warmer than white and lends a timeless and luxurious look to a kitchen design. Cream-colored cabinets work in many different design styles, from modern to rustic, traditional, country, and farmhouse. They also are available in a wide variety of cabinet styles including shaker, recessed, and raised panel. Cream is a soft hue that is as timeless as white or gray but warmer, making it easier on the eyes and helping to make any space feel less clinical. It also pairs effortlessly with any accent color or material, from brass finishes to dark woods.
