One of my favorite projects as an interior designer is creating unique and fun bedrooms for kids. It’s always a great choice to start with the bedding. Once the quilt, comforter or duvet set has been chosen, it is very easy to create a custom palette that pulls the color from this selection. Coordinating pillows and blankets in mixes of prints that are in fun and inspiring patterns and colors provide a personal touch. Pattern can create a very playful and creative room. There are a wide variety of mix and match patterns that work well together. For little girls, a combination of polka dots, stripes, floral or gingham can be used in a variety of different ways.
It’s also a great idea to frame and hang art in places throughout the room. It’s important that children of all ages feel inspired in their spaces. Create groupings that make a statement. Use a shelf to add favorite books, photos, jewelry, and sentimental items. Organization is also a key component. Try stylish storage bins, labeled boxes, bed frames with shelving, or floating shelves. GO BIG and have fun! Stencil in a wall of hearts, polka dots, or stars. Mirrors add a great touch as they work well in making any space look larger.
Creating a fun, fresh and vibrant room for your child doesn’t have to be a hard or difficult task. There are some very simple and basic steps that one can incorporate in the initial stages of the design concept, that will make the project much easier. Whether you are creating a whole new space for your child, or re-designing an existing one, it is always a good idea to include your child in the process. With a little bit of imagination and brainstorming with both parent and child participating, the possibilities are endless.
Perhaps one of the greatest challenges is finding the perfect girls bedding set. The following are a few great sources that I have recommended to my clients over the years.
